Tutoring FAQ

1. Can I get tutoring for any course?

You can find a quick reference list of courses and times a tutor is available to tutor that course by selecting 'View Tutoring Times for your course' our website. You will need to sign in using your BearID and password. Once you have done so, select your course from the drop-down window to see times and locations that free tutoring is available for walk-ins with no appointments. You can make an appointment for a free 30-minute private appointment in several high demand courses in which you are currently enrolled. To do so log in to baylor.campus.eab.com using your BearID and password and click the  "Get Tutoring" button. Remember to have your phone next to you because DUO is necessary to log in. After selecting the "Get Tutoring" button, follow the prompts to discover available classes. The first question is about the location you will choose to come to for tutoring. You will select either the Tutoring Center (TC) on the first floor of the Sid Richardson Building or the Engineering and Computer Science Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Learning Annex across from Kokernot Hall. Continue through the prompts until a schedule of available tutors for your class appears.

2. Where and when can I get free tutoring on the Baylor campus?

Our primary location for tutoring is the Tutoring Center (TC) in the Sid Richardson Building on the First Floor. During the Fall and Spring terms, the Tutoring Center is open from 9am-8pm on Mondays- Thursdays. During 1st and 2nd Summer Sessions the Tutoring Center is open from 2pm-5pm. Both walk-in tutoring and appointments are serviced at this location for a large variety of courses. Upon arrival, you will check in at the front desk. Remember to check in at the front desk first before meeting with a tutor so that we can connect you to the right tutor. Also, have your Baylor ID card or number ready because it is necessary upon check-in. We also have a secondary location across campus in the Engineering and Computer Science Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Learning Annex across from Kokernot Hall. This location is only open during the Fall and Spring Terms (not summer). This location only does Walk-in tutoring (no appointments) and services primarily for Computer Science and Engineering courses on Sundays from 6pm-11pm and Monday- Thursday 8pm-11pm. Remember to check in at the front desk first before meeting with a tutor so that we can connect you to the right tutor. Also, have your Baylor ID card or number ready because it is necessary upon check-in.

3. Do I have to make an appointment?

No appointments are required! You may stop by either location during business hours. Should you wish to make an appointment in the Sid Rich location, please stop in or call the Tutoring Center during business hours 254-710-4135. You may also make appointments online by logging in to baylor.campus.eab.com and clicking the blue "Get Tutoring" button. Should you have any questions or difficulties, please call the Tutoring Center during business hours and someone will be happy to assist you.

More Information

4. How do I check what times tutors will be available for walk-in?

You can check availability of tutors for walk-in visits by visiting one of our locations or visiting our website www.baylor.edu/tutoring and selecting the big red button. You will need to sign in using your BearID and password. Once you have done so, select your course from the drop-down window to see times and locations that free tutoring is available. If you do not see your course listed or you do not see any tutors available, please contact the Tutoring Center front desk during business hours to assist you 254-710-4135.

5. Is private tutoring available?

Individual 30-minute tutor appointments are available for limited courses and tutors. You can check to see if individual appointments can be scheduled for any of your courses by logging in to the Navigate app and clicking the "Get Tutoring" button. More ways to schedule an appointment are found above and our on webpage. If you find you need more extended private tutoring than we can provide, please see if your professor or the department can recommend someone you could privately hire and pay to tutor you. You will find a list of Departmental Tutoring options on our website.

More Information

6. How long are the tutoring sessions?

Individual private tutoring appointments at our locations are up to 30 minutes in length. Walk-in tutoring can last as long as a tutor is available to help. Keep in mind that walk-in tutoring might mean that one tutor will be helping multiple students at once. If your tutor's shift time ends before you are finished working, the front desk can help you get connected with another tutor.

7. I don't see my course listed and I need assistance. What do I do?

Please contact the Tutoring Center with any course requests or tutoring concerns. Also, some courses may not be listed but supplemental videos may be available for those courses under our Tutoring YouTube Videos or Additional Online Resources and Tips.

8. What materials should I bring to tutoring?

Bring your notes, textbook, and any other study materials you need. The more prepared you are when you come to tutoring, the more effective your tutoring session will be. Remember to bring your Baylor ID card or number because you will need it upon check-in.

9. How are tutors selected and prepared for this role?

We employ between 50-60 students during the Fall and Spring semesters with exceptional grades and abilities to cover a wide range of high demand courses offered at Baylor. Tutors candidates may apply who 1) have qualifying grades in the courses they wish to tutor 2) have the recommendation of three separate faculty members and 3) maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. After an extensive interview process demonstrating their knowledge and communication skills, tutors who are selected to serve must undergo a mandatory 3-day training event to prepare them to tutor students.
